Capoeira De Ouro
The name of the Capoeira de Ouro group was created in February 2015, after a long period of questioning and reflection on the essential values of capoeira and its practice.
The meaning of the name Capoeira de Ouro is very simple, but with real foundations: We, as capoeiristas, know and are aware of how much capoeira has given us and helped us in every sense of our lives since we started practicing it.
Capoeira was born out of oppressive suffering during the colonization of Brazil. The slaves who only gained a small beginning of freedom from it, did not have the time to enjoy and reap the fruits that we are reaping today.
Because today we work with Capoeira, we have found a family and can make our own path.
Therefore, capoeira is a true treasure, an inheritance worth its weight in gold (Ouro) left by slaves.
And that’s why we chose Capoeira de Ouro as our group.”
The name officially began to be used by all students under my direction in April 2019.
